Remembrance Day Assembly & Library Dedication

On Thursday, November 9th, Octagon Pond Elementary had the opportunity to not only remember those who fought for us, but to dedicate our Library Learning Commons to a brave, truly honourable man, Sgt. Donald Lucas, who lost his life bravely fighting for our Country overseas in April of 2017. We were fortunate enough to have many special guests attend including the Lucas family, Their Honours Lieutenant Governor Frank Fagan and wife Patricia Fagan, Minister Kirby and NLESD Director Tony Stack, just to name a few. Thank you so much for making this day so special to our school community and for helping us honour Sgt. Donald Lucas.

Congratulations to all of our students who received this years Junior Peacekeeping Award, presented by the Canadian Peacekeeping Veterans of NL's President, Gary Best.  One student from each class was selected on criteria of kindness, respect and demonstrating the act of doing whats right.

Official opening and dedication of the Sgt. Donald Lucas Commons. Opening remarks were given by NLESD Director, Tony Stack. Our OPE Grade 5 Choir performed beautiful entertainment, directed by Ms. Hinchy. Thank you to all who attended.
